The Essential Godzilla collection is great 1970s Marvel madness.

A rather light day today, as last night, Collin, Christa, Mandy, Esther, myself, and a cast of other random drop-ins and drop-outs went out to the Orange County Social Club for a little drink. I was very restrained. Honest.

(In fact, it was my usual 'first night out with everybody and I feel very shy and intimidated' blues, but as ever, I'll probably get over myself in a day or two)

I've spent most of today sleeping, so I haven't got too depressed over this news today (what happened to the Lords?).

You may have noticed that the new pictures on the sidebar are at a slightly higher resolution. I have my new T9 camera now, woohoo!

Oh well. My passport's valid until June 2014, so there's still time for a spot of travelling. Or it's my deadline for emigration. The hereditaries would never have rolled over so cravenly, you know ;).

I'm thinking of getting it renewed when I get back - I think the Passport Agency is doing the new digital picture ones now, which I'll need if I come into America from the end of this year.

Nice to see Charles Clarke giving me another reason not to vote Labour next time: "compulsory ID cards! We'll sell your information to, well, any bidders!" Grrr...

(I'm wondering what the deal was - the Tories seemed to be digging in, and all of a sudden they pass a toothless amendment and that's it?)

I paticularly liked

"I would be very surprised if the next Conservative manifesto said 'stop the scheme'. It would be very difficult to do," [Clarke] said.

and

"I don't think there is any benefit in opting out at all. Anyone who opts out in my opinion is foolish."

And also a criminal, presumably, giving the lie to "opt out". How comforting, too, to learn how difficult he thinks he's made it for this law to be repealed. Mustn't have anyone undoing The Project after they've gone, eh? We've had Kraft durch Freude (BBC should take fun seriously) and now a subtle variation on Arbeit macht frei. Freizeitgestaltung next, no doubt.
