Sorry; the blog has been concentrating on music almost exclusively for the past month. And today's entry is no different. But maybe tomorrow, eh, readers?

Today, I'd just like to point out that my first two album reviews are up at Static Multimedia. I promise not to mention it every time a review goes online, but it's my first published music work. So yay!

Tanya Donelly review.

Italic attack, italic attack!

Both good reviews, Ian - I particularly liked the second. It seems they've got you sussed out already though - two bands, two female vocalists. Or was it a request? ;-)

Indeed - smack the guy who coded the page. And how alarming is the ad at the top: Motley Crue reformed? Kill me now!

Oh, and if Young Heart Attack went the first way, with the interesting twists, rathert than the ironic detachment and Spinal Tap double entendres, then why is the album called, um, Mouthful of Love?

Anyway, sweet! Hope it works out.

Tom: I must confess I did choose the YHA album. And I think the next two I'm reviewing includes female singers as well - but I swear, I didn't know! (I am hoping, possibly against hope, that I will be able to get an advance copy of the New Order album though, to address the balance).

Richard: oh sure, make me DEFEND the review ;-). I did cut some things from the review which dealt with this a little. It's really a thinly-veiled attack on The Darkness; shameful, I know, but I get the sense that the "irony" is the whole point of them: "let us indulge all the silly clichés and laugh at ourselves every other line. we're ZANY! but don't worry, because we know it's stupid!"

In the case of YHA, sure they make jokes - I refuse to believe that they chose "Mary Jane" simply because they have a crush on Spider-Man's wife, for example, they're clever enough to let them speak to whomever gets them, rather than sticking a BIG COMEDY HAND in the lyrics.

Um, to sum up, if I haven't completely argued myself into a corner: Spinal Tap and The Darkness are comedy acts first and bands second, whereas YHA are a band. A terribly rockist position, I know, but I'm so sick of Justin Darkness and his grinning mug…

The problem I have with the second review the name of the band. You've got their name wrong. The picture of the album in the top left corner it shows that their chosen moniker is actually DUNG Heart Attack. Which sounds very unpleasant indeed... ;)
